A 19-year-old founder's startup Ghost just released Core, a $3,499 desktop device built specifically to run AI agents locally on your behalf. The machine comes with an Nvidia GPU, preloaded models, and encrypted local storage so Ghost and other third parties can't access your data.
- Core costs $3,499, includes an Nvidia RTX Pro 4000 SFF Blackwell GPU, and ships with three AI models preinstalled (Qwen and Gemma); preorders open Monday with delivery in late October.
- All code, model weights, and personal data run locally on the device—not in the cloud—and Ghost says it's designed to keep working even if the company shuts down.
- Javaid argues Core differs from a Mac Mini because it's purpose-built for AI agents with software designed to handle continuous task execution, memory management, and autonomous decision-making without constant user input.
- The device includes a firewall that monitors outgoing network requests and blocks agents from exfiltrating data or performing unauthorized actions.
Vinod Khosla argues personal AI products will succeed on two fronts: user trust in the company handling their data, and actually solving real problems. He sees Meta as particularly vulnerable on the trust side.
- Trust in data handling will be a major competitive advantage, with Meta at a disadvantage due to its reputation
- Products that reliably complete tasks will earn user loyalty regardless of other factors
- Completion and trust are separate moats — a company could theoretically win on one but not the other
